My Work

I have drawn, painted and sculpted for as long as I can remember. In the last 30 years I have had my work accepted in a number of places, at the Nottingham Castle ‘Local Artist Exhibition’, Beeston Town Hall, Long Eaton Library and Stapleford Library. In the late 1990’s I completed ‘A’ levels in ‘Fine Art’ and ‘Art, Craft and Design’ at the Arthur Mee Centre. Following this I took up a course in sculpture at Clarendon College. All three courses have had a great influence on my work, most of all the course at Clarendon because it gave me the opportunity to express myself freely.

Most of my work consists of 3 dimensional sculptures and high relief pieces for wall hanging. All are made in mixed media, i.e. plaster, wood, cloth and natural materials. Because of this they are only really suitable for indoor situations

A number of my pieces may be viewed as having religious implications, this is purely accidental and a by-product of my imagination and a fixation, maybe, of the cross which goes back far further than Christianity.

GOLDEN DREAMS

Golden Dreams measures approx 3' x 1'6" and is made of plaster, cloth and paint and represents the convulsive motions of dreams, devoid of time, place and people.

AUTUMN

Autumn approx 3'6" x 2'6" . Slight relief in plaster and paint. It represents the feeling of looking through a window on a damp and rainy autumn day and seeing the colours merge.

DRAGON

Dragon measures approx 2' x 2' in a wooden frame with glass front. Done in a kaleidascope of felt tip colours it represents the motion of a dragon in action. (Sold)

MEDITATION

Meditation is approx 3' tall and is constructed in wood and plaster finished in black and gold. The figure, in monks attire, is in the process of attaining a visionary glimpse into the beyond represented by ascending and descending golden stars

EARTH GODDESS

Earth Goddess is approx 3' tall and is constructed from plaster and organic materials coated in a metallic/pewter coloured paint. The base, out of which the Goddess emerges, face distorted in agony representing the strain of giving birth, is made in wood and resembles a temple.

INVADER

Invader takes the form of a slightly raised relief in plaster and paint measuring approx 3' x 3'

The view is of a window into a void with the black ball representing the invader.
